D'jreckon you can loosen your style up even more? I sit across from a pedestrian crossing light at a pub in Brisbane and get about 15 seconds to catch a pose. How fast and loose can you catch one?

THanks for the comment on my blog!! Superb gesture!!

Hey Stevie

Yup, 15 to 30 seconds just trying to the find those lines that describe the pose. Many times I fail to catch it and that's part of learning. But I teach myself to work rough but catch what is important to make a pose readable.

Your sketches are beautiful but their beauty can be their downfall in terms of catching forces and arcs for rough animation. It was a lesson from my animation mentor. He brandished sharp insults at me like, "illustrator" and "film maker" (yeah, tough school) in his attempts to make me into an animator.

It's only now that I've moved into his vacated tecahing job (he went back to the real world) that I appreciate his tough love approach.

Getting really squiggly and rough with fast sketches either creates a mess, or somewhere in there you can start to find something.

I think of Kyle Balda being able to read the colourful spaghetti of the Maya graph editor as another example of recognising animation in what looks like chaos.

I guess it's not for everyone. I was diagnosed as a "Middle brain" animator = not truly artistic and not fully mathematical. The mad sketching dragged me into the artistic side.

Blah, blah blardy blah. Have a go at it and have fun with it. :)
